Braves swing trade with Marlins ahead of the second half

The trade deadline is fast approaching, and the Braves are expected to be among the sellers for the first time in nearly a decade.

The bigger trades likely won’t happen for another couple of weeks, but Anthopoulos did swing a small transaction with the Marlins late on Wednesday night, sending Michael Petersen to Miami for cash considerations.

This move shouldn’t affect either club very much. Petersen pitched in just four games for the Braves, recording a 4.05 ERA over 6.2 innings. However, it could be the start of a wave of transactions, as Atlanta begins to open up roster spots for some new faces.

Hurston Waldrep, Hayden Harris, Jhancarlos Lara, JR Ritchie, Blake Burkhalter, Brett Sears, and Ian Mejia are all prospect arms that could make their way to the major-league level this season if the Braves don’t come out of the gates on fire to begin the second half.
