While Spencer Schwellenbach electrified the Truist Park crowd in the Braves home opener, Spencer Strider was a few miles down the road making his second rehab start for the Gwinnett Stripers.
The hard-throwing right-hander was equally as impressive as Schwellenbach, finishing 5.1 innings on just 75 pitches, allowing no hits, no runs, and striking out eight. It was so good, there seemed to be a chance the Braves could activate Spencer Strider to make a start next week. However, they are going to continue with their original plan. He will make another start for Gwinnett on Thursday.

If all goes well, you can bet your bottom dollar Spencer Strider will be back in the Braves rotation in a couple of weeks.
Mark Bowman also revealed the Braves plan for Sean Murphy. While he’s with the major-league club for their game today against the Marlins, he will catch nine innings in Gwinnett tomorrow. Assuming there are no setbacks, he could be activated on Tuesday.

Despite a 1-7 start to the season, the Braves are taking a cautious approach with a couple of their All-Stars, and nobody can really blame them considering all of the injuries this team has suffered dating back to last year. Fans will have to wait a little longer to see Spencer Strider and Sean Murphy, but they are both progressing very well.
