Braves make roster move, Carlos Carrasco elects free agency

The Braves designated Carlos Carrasco for assignment last Friday for what feels like the 30th time this season. He cleared waivers and was outrighted to Gwinnett; however, he has instead elected free agency.

There’s always a chance Carlos Carrasco sniffs around for other interest and decides his best option is to remain with the Braves organization. But it is fairly obvious he’s never going to have much of a role in Atlanta.

The Braves simply have too many pitchers, and there are more reinforcements on the way. Hurston Waldrep began his rehab assignment today, while AJ Smith-Shawver and Spencer Schwellenbach are also expected to return at some point this season.

Carrasco has made four appearances for the Braves this season and actually performed respectably, owning a 2.45 ERA over 7.1 innings. Even at 39-years-old, it’s possible there’s a more desirable landing spot for him.
