The Braves are in a remarkably fun position as the trade deadline inches closer. They’ve been the best team in baseball since Opening Day and have an opportunity to load up and make a serious push for another World Series under Alex Anthopoulos.
For starters, a number of talented teams around the league are scuffling badly enough that several marquee names could be on the move over the next couple of months. The Braves also have better prospect depth than they’ve had in years — a deep stable of young pitching that can serve as trade currency, and a growing number of position players beginning to separate themselves at the lower levels.
On top of that, the money freed up by the Jurickson Profar suspension gives Atlanta a financial advantage most teams don’t have. While other clubs might struggle to absorb an extra $10-15 million for a star player at the deadline, the Braves should have no issue.
Put it all together and it’s a formula for Anthopoulos to make a significant splash. And while he’s not going to tip his hand publicly, he did make one thing clear — the Braves are going to be active.
Alex Anthopoulos says the Braves expect to be active at the trade deadline if they keep playing like this.

In recent years, the Braves haven’t typically been among the clubs involved with the top names available at the trade deadline. Even in 2021, when Anthopoulos acquired four outfielders to fill the void left by Ronald Acuña Jr.‘s injury, none of them required top prospects to acquire.
Anthopoulos has addressed this philosophy on several occasions. As much as he’d love to add stars at every deadline, his job is to ensure the Braves have success both now and down the road. The goal is to reach the postseason every season — and if you do that consistently, championships will come.
That said, it’s hard to remember a scenario quite like this one. The Braves have clear areas where they could significantly upgrade an already really good team, and for the first time in a while, they have the prospect capital to swing big without gutting the farm system in the process.
Anthopoulos might not want to guarantee anything, but I’ve never been scared to make a prediction. This is the year we see a blockbuster trade from the Atlanta Braves at the deadline, and I’ve already discussed a number of candidates from each league that could be available, which you can find linked below.
