Tyler Goodson Falcons

Preseason standout poached from Falcons practice squad

The Falcons suffered yet another mini-hit to their roster on Tuesday morning as it was announced that Tyler Goodson has been signed by the Cowboys off of Atlanta’s practice squad.

Goodson might have been the best overall player from the Falcons’ preseason, and it was shocking he didn’t end up making the final 53-man roster. However, because Atlanta was forced to carry four quarterbacks, they had to trim the fat somewhere they probably didn’t want to.

That happened to be the running back position. With Bijan Robinson and Brian Robinson Jr. in the fold, Goodson — even as good as he was during the preseason — was expendable. The Falcons opted to ride with just two running backs on the active roster, and it’s really no surprise that another team eventually swooped in for Goodson. He’s good enough to play as a backup in this league.

Running back is the last position the Falcons have to worry about right now. Bijan Robinson and Brian Robinson Jr. were really the only bright spots in Sunday’s loss to the Steelers, combining to form a menacing one-two punch. But it’s a long season, and those guys are going to carry a lot of the workload. The situation will get a little hairy if an injury arises, especially if it’s Bijan Robinson who goes down.
