Pair of Georgia pass rushers heavily linked to Falcons ahead of NFL Draft

There are so many Georgia Bulldogs fans that are also Falcons fans that it would be a dream scenario for one of their star defenders to come to Atlanta. It hasn’t happened in a long time, but this could finally be the draft where that changes. Dan Graziano and Jeremy Fowler are heavily linking Jalon Walker and Mykel Williams to the Dirty Birds.

“That means you could hear names such as Jalon Walker (Georgia), Mykel Williams (Georgia), Walter Nolen (Ole Miss), Kenneth Grant (Michigan), Derrick Harmon (Oregon), James Pearce Jr. (Tennessee), Mike Green (Marshall) and Shemar Stewart (Texas A&M) called early,” Graziano writes. “That would make life interesting for the Falcons, who are sitting at No. 15 and desperate for defensive help in this draft. Could they try to trade up if the top defensive linemen start flying off the board?”

“Fowler: Walker as a top-10 pick seems viable. One executive whose team picks high in the draft said Walker’s Thursday workout at UGA was “outstanding.” Walker is firmly on the radar for Carolina at No. 8. And one industry source predicted that his floor is probably Atlanta’s pick. Williams also is well positioned. While he might not go in the top 10, he’s a legit option in the teens. Multiple teams told me Atlanta and Arizona (No. 16) are two to watch.”

From what Fowler reports, if Jalon Walker somehow falls to the Falcons, he will be the pick, which would be a dream. He’s firmly a top 10 talent that is being caught up in prospect fatigue. Williams is hardly a consolation prize, though.

Neither Bulldogs defender lit up the box score, but that’s usually the case when it comes to Georgia defenders under Kirby Smart. It’s about winning games, not player stats. Williams also played injured and couldn’t be told to sit, even if Smart wanted him to.

Either one should make Falcons fans happy, but there are plenty of other exciting defenders. Walter Nolen and Mike Green, in particular, are two menacing pass rushers this defense has been missing for years.
