Spencer Strider Braves

Next steps for Spencer Strider and Sean Murphy revealed

It’s been nothing but good news for the Braves since the season began, and things are set to get even better very soon, as both Spencer Strider and Sean Murphy are leaving Rome and headed to Triple-A Gwinnett to continue their rehab assignment.

For Sean Murphy, it’s been a long road back. The former All-Start catcher underwent hip surgery in September of last year and is just now returning to the diamond, appearing in four games for the Rome Emperors.

Murphy has yet to catch a full nine innings and has not yet played in back-to-back games. Those are typically the final boxes that need to be checked before returning to the majors, which could happen as soon as next week.

Spencer Strider is a little further behind. He made his first rehab start last week, tossing 3.1 innings of scoreless ball with three strikeouts over 50 pitches. That’s not a bad start, but he’ll still need at least a couple of more starts to continue to stretch out before the Braves consider bringing him up.

Look for Strider to throw around 60-70 pitches on Tuesday night, and then flirt with 80-85 pitches his next time out. Providing there are no setbacks, it’s possible he’s back with the Braves in a couple of weeks.
