Marcell Ozuna is back in the lineup after missing the Toronto series with a minor hip injury. His presence in the middle of the order was sorely missed, and he’ll be joined by the newest member of the Braves Alex Verdugo, who is making his season debut in the leadoff spot.
Verdugo’s Atlanta debut probably shouldn’t be as hyped up as it has been. He’s not an All-Star caliber player by any means, but that just shows the state of the Braves outfield, which has been by far the worst in baseball through 18 games this season.
Verdugo does offer some traits to get excited about. He’s got a fiery personality that can provide a spark, but most importantly, he makes contact and can get on base. The Braves don’t have a lot of guys like that, and they need one to set the table for the heart of this lineup that has actually been hitting the ball much better of late.
