Jesse Chavez is back with the Braves… Again

In a time of despair following the Braves 0-7 start, the Jesse Chavez saga offers a bit of comic relief. After being added to the active roster only to be designated for assignment a day later, the 41-year-old is back with the club on a minor-league deal.

Jesse Chavez cleared waivers and actually initially elected free agency but is now back with the Braves for the second time this week, 7th time in four years, and 8th time in his career.

While it’s a fun story and the Braves might actually need him later in the season, it’s more of a testament to how poorly constructed Atlanta’s bullpen is right now. The club’s general manager opted to ignore it this offseason, despite losing A.J. Minter and Joe Jimenez, and the Braves have already paid the price on multiple occasions. Now, Anthopoulos will be working tirelessly cycling through new faces until something sticks.
