Georgia Bulldogs add three impact players in transfer portal

Over the weekend, the Georgia Bulldogs added a trio of potential impact players via the transfer portalElo Modozie, Joshua McCray, and Joshua Horton.

Among them, Elo Modozie appears to be the biggest get. The Army outside linebacker was one of the top pass rushers in the transfer portal, coming off a season in which he recorded 6.5 sacks for the Black Knights. The Bulldogs’ pass rush was not in great shape after losing so much talent this offseason.

Jalon Walker, Mykel Williams, and Chaz Chambliss are all headed to the NFL. Those were Georgia’s top pass rushers from a year ago, and Damon Wilson II also departed earlier in the offseason, transferring to Missouri. The Bulldogs had to add a proven commodity during the spring transfer portal, and they did just that by signing Modozie, who has two years of eligibility remaining.

Joshua McCray could also have an immediate impact for the Bulldogs on the other side of the ball. The running back transfer from Illinois has a lot of experience under his belt, appearing in 33 games for The Illini and carrying the ball 291 times for 1,370 yards (4.7 yards per carry) and 14 touchdowns.

With Trevor Ettienne heading to the NFL, Nate Frazier is expected to carry the load as the Bulldogs’ starting running back, but who will receive the bulk of the carries behind him remains up in the air, especially with Branson Robinson entering the transfer portal. At the very least, McCray adds some much-needed depth to the position. He has one year of eligibility remaining.

Lastly, the Bulldogs also beefed up the interior of their defensive line by adding Joshua Horton from Miami. He only appeared in five games for the Hurricanes last year, totaling four tackles, but he comes with three years of eligibility remaining and will compete for playing time across a Georgia Bulldogs defensive line that isn’t as deep and talent-rich as it has been in years past.
