It is going to be an interesting summer in Atlanta as the Hawks search for a President of Basketball Operations, with one familiar face in the running to take over the club.
According to Zach Klein, the Hawks are interviewing a slew of candidates, including Monte McNair, Calvin Booth, Shareef Abur-Rahim, and most notably, Danny Ferry. Yes, Danny Ferry is interviewing for the opening in Atlanta’s front office.
per multiple NBA league sources… the Atlanta Hawks are casting a very wide net in their search for a team president.

McNair was alright during his time in Sacramento, but he clearly has a good reputation around the Association. Booth has a mixed track record but did win a title. If we are talking from a pure basketball standpoint, Ferry has the best track record, but there are clearly non-basketball items to think about as well.
Most notably, Ferry was disciplined by CEO Steve Koonin in 2014 following a three-month investigation of Ferry and his disparaging comments about Luol Deng.
“Ferry made the inflammatory comments about Deng in a conference call with the Hawks’ ownership group in June when the team pursued Deng as a free agent,” ESPN wrote at the time.
Ferry was named the Hawks’ general manager in 2012 after two years as vice president of basketball operations for the Spurs. In Atlanta, he built arguably the best team this franchise has had since its move from St Louis. One that won 60 games and made it all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals.
If the Hawks re-hired Danny Ferry, it would undoubtedly bring scrutiny for his non-basketball issues, but if we compartmentalize the entire situation, there might not be a better option from a roster-building standpoint.
This sure will be an exciting offseason for the Hawks.
