When rosters expand in September to 28 players, it’s possible we see a prospect or two who haven’t made an appearance in Atlanta yet.

Perhaps one of them is Eric Hartman. The #1 prospect in the organization was recently promoted to Double-A Columbus following the trade deadline after a magical four months with the Rome Emperors. It would be a lot to ask, but if the uptick in competition doesn’t bother him, a quick look to see whether he could provide the club anything in October might be too tempting to pass up.

More realistic, however, is Pat Clohisy. He’s not a name you’ll find at the top of any prospect lists, but the 24-year-old has put together a really nice calendar year that started in the Arizona Fall League, where he hit .284 with a .772 OPS. He then posted similar numbers over 70 games in Double-A Columbus — but Triple-A is where he’s really taken off. In 19 games, he’s hitting a silly .431 with eleven extra-base hits and an OPS north of 1.200.

What makes Clohisy interesting is the hit tool, along with his speed and defensive versatility. He can play all three outfield positions, has stolen 48 bases, and simply makes contact with everything that crosses the plate in the zone.

His lack of power will likely limit his long-term upside. He’s 24 and has just 10 home runs on the season, a career high. But he projects as a high-floor guy who could serve as a fourth outfielder at the very least.

There’s still a long way to go between now and September, but if Clohisy keeps hitting at a .400 clip, he may get a look — especially if the Braves maintain a comfortable lead in the NL East.
