Braves: Spencer Strider takes critical step on Wednesday

The Braves lost on Wednesday night to the Reds, snapping their three-game win streak as the club just can’t seem to make their way back to .500 on the season. However, Spencer Strider will go a long way in accomplishing that goal, and he appears to have taken a massive step towards rejoining the team, throwing his first bullpen since suffering a Grade 1 hamstring strain on April 16th.

Braves manager Brian Snitker didn’t provide an update on how the bullpen went, saying the team wants to make sure he feels alright this morning before deciding what is next.

Hopefully, some more good news will follow ahead of tonight’s series finale with the Reds. If everything checks out, it’s not unreasonable to think Spencer Strider could rejoin the club sometime next week.

However, the Braves aren’t going to rush him, and they really don’t need to right now with the way others in the rotation have been performing. AJ Smith-Shawver just tossed eight innings of shutout ball, and Bryce Elder has strung together three high quality starts in a row. Moving either of them out of the rotation right now isn’t exactly fair, but it will be a fantastic problem to have once Spencer Strider is cleared to return to the major-league club.
