Braves: Ronald Acuña Jr. set to return to the field

With the Braves offense scuffling, the presence of Ronald Acuña Jr. has never felt more necessary if Atlanta wants to get back into postseason contention. Now, there is finally a light at the end of the tunnel.

According to Brian Snitker, Acuña will begin rehab work in games tomorrow with the Florida Complex League team. Although, there is still no clear idea of when he might return to Atlanta.

The Braves have taken things with Ronald Acuña Jr. incredibly slow this time around, and that’s not going to change, even with the club struggling.

However, we can imagine what the next steps look like, assuming there are no setbacks. Acuña will likely begin his rehab assignment as a DH, and then they’ll ease him into right field duties. Once they feel comfortable with him playing nine innings in the field on back-to-back days, that’s generally when they’ll decide to activate him.

When this process goes smoothly, it typically takes about a couple of weeks. With that being said, it could be something more like 3-4 weeks with Acuña, given how cautiously they have handled his situation. An Atlanta return date around June 1st feels like the best possible scenario.
