The Braves made an intriguing roster move ahead of Wednesday’s series finale, calling up infield prospect Jim Jarvis. In a corresponding move, outfielder Jose Azocar has been designated for assignment.
The #Braves today selected INF Jim Jarvis to the major league roster and designated OF José Azócar for assignment.

Jim Jarvis was acquired in a trade with the Tigers for Rafael Montero last year, which almost feels illegal given how piss-poor Montero was for the Braves. He was almost certainly headed for a release, but Alex Anthopoulos was able to squeeze something out of nothing.
At the time, it didn’t seem like much. Jarvis was a 24-year-old that had never made it past Double-A ball and was sporting a .652 OPS on the season. But he made it up to Gwinnett at the end of the year, where he’s started the 2026 campaign, and things have really started to click for him offensively.
Over 33 games, Jarvis is hitting over .300 with 10 extra-base hits and 15 steals. He’s got a legit contact bat, with almost as many walks as he has strikeouts, and is an athlete that can play all over the infield.
Jarvis is likely just a roster placeholder until Ha-Seong Kim returns from his rehab assignment, but he’s become a prospect to watch and could potentially even be the Braves shortstop of the future if he continues this upward trend.
Another positive aspect of this move seems to be that the Braves are more confident about Michael Harris’ quad injury. He’s missed several games during the current road trip but played a full nine innings in left field yesterday. Hopefully, that’s a sign that he’s beginning to feel close to 100%.
