The NBA Draft is rapidly approaching, set to air on Thursday night. The Hawks currently hold the 15th pick, but it seems the club isn’t likely to make the selection, according to Woj.
“This is probably one of the most active teams in trade talks around the league,” ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported. “This is a team, perhaps packaged with one of their players, that 15th pick, can it get them up the draft board on Thursday night? That’s certainly part of the conversation there.”
Atlanta’s GM Landry Fields echoed similar sentiments during a pre-draft press conference last week. Most of those rumors center around the Mavericks’ 10th pick and Davis Bertans along with John Collins/Clint Capela. However, as Woj confirms, the entire roster is available outside of Trae Young.
“There are several players who are available in trades,” Wojnarowski said. “De’Andre Hunter, John Collins, and even Dejounte Murray.”
This confirms all of Yahoo Sports’ Jake Fischer’s reporting too. It’s rather obvious moves have to be made. Atlanta’s financial situation severely handicaps its ability to upgrade the roster without cutting costs.
Trae Young, John Collins De’Andre Hunter, Bogdan Bogdanovic, and Clint Capela have all received lucrative extensions in recent years. That doesn’t even include Kevin Huerter, who the club traded last offseason in a cost-cutting move.
There are undoubtedly moves coming down the pipeline, and it could mean moving one or several of Collins, Capela, Hunter, Murray, etc. However, Hawks fans can rest assured, Quin Snyder didn’t take the job to rebuild the Hawks. He sees the roster close to being ready to compete for championships.
