The Falcons made one of the more surprising moves of the night, picking up a guy who was thought to be a first round pick a few weeks before the NFL Draft.
Jalen Mayfield was drafted with pick 68 of round 3 in the 2021 draft class. He scored a 4.91 RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 583 out of 1143 OT from 1987 to 2021. https://t.co/c5Fxo9AZC3 #RAS #Falcons pic.twitter.com/sL17vgAbMK

As you can see, Mayfield didn’t have a great Pro Day, but there’s still a reason for optimism. He won’t be playing tackle for the Falcons, so that’s a start.

He only allowed two sacks during his entire career at Michigan, so he should be able to contribute immediately at left guard. I think he has an incredibly high ceiling, but I trust Dwayne Ledford to coach him up to that level. I still believe the Falcons should trade back into the third round — there’s a ton of talent left on the board. Mayfield will need some work, but I like his potential long term. As you can see, he has a bit of an edge to him — something I think the Falcons are going to value going forward.
