The Deshaun Watson saga in Atlanta has caused quite a mess, and the team’s leadership is to blame. Without landing Watson, the Falcons have just created a rift between themselves and Matt Ryan. The veteran quarterback has every right to demand a trade, but it seems he’s choosing a different route and is reportedly demanding a new contract.
Well, the team has two options. According to Ian Rapoport, the Falcons can either trade Ryan before his $7.5 million roster bonus is guaranteed on Monday at 4 pm or keep him in 2022 and pay him the money he’s seeking.
The #Falcons fielded trade calls the last few days centered around QB Matt Ryan, sources say. Today is a deadline to make a decision, as Ryan will earn a $7.5M roster bonus from ATL if he’s on the roster at 4 pm. It’ll be either a trade or back to ATL, possibly with a sweetener.

It seems the tide has turned. Less than a month ago, the Falcons were adamant about keeping Ryan as their quarterback; however, their pursuit of Watson has obviously changed the circumstances. They’ve burned their relationship with the greatest quarterback in franchise history, and now, Ryan wants a commitment from the Falcons, or he wants to be traded to a contender. It seems we will have an answer in the immediate future too.
