Following a disgusting 9-0 Braves loss on Wednesday to the Red Sox in which Spencer Schwellenbach looked a little overmatched, giving up six earned runs over 4.1 innings, it was fair to wonder if the rookie would go back to AAA to get a little more seasoning before his next start with the Braves. However, that doesn’t appear to be the case.
There was no transaction following the game, which would typically be the case to give the Braves an extra arm in the bullpen, and Justin Toscano essentially confirmed that the plan right now is for Spencer Schwellenbach to make his next scheduled start on Tuesday against the Orioles.
This seemed clear when the Braves did not make a move earlier today, but barring anything unforeseen, Spencer Schwellenbach will make his next start with Atlanta. He's lined up to pitch Tuesday in Baltimore.

I don’t mind this move at all from the Braves. They don’t have a fifth starter right now they can rely on, and from a stuff perspective, Schwellenbach is probably the best they have. Unless they wanted to give Hurston Waldrep an opportunity to make his major-league debut, but I don’t mind the 2023 first-round pick getting some more work in Gwinnett before they pull that card. It will likely happen eventually this season, but for now, it seems like Spencer Schwellenbach is going to get another crack against an Orioles lineup that is loaded with talent.
