Why Falcons getting Troy Andersen back against Bucs is important

Atlanta Falcons injuries

The Falcons could be getting Troy Andersen back this week, and it couldn’t come at a better time.

According to Raheem Morris, the third-year linebacker will be at practice on Wednesday, and his status for Atlanta’s Week 8 contest in Tampa Bay is up in the air.

Andersen has missed every Falcons game since their Week 4 contest against the Saints, his coming-out party. The Montana State product logged ten tackles, one for loss, a pass defended, and a pick-six off a Derek Carr tipped pass by Matthew Judon.

Despite some early struggles, Troy Andersen played with a newfound confidence but ultimately got unlucky in the injury department. His return this week is extremely important for the Falcons.

The Buccaneers will be without Chris Godwin and Mike Evans this Sunday, so the assumption is the Falcons will see a heavy dose of tight ends and running backs in the passing game.

Nate Landman has always been limited athletically but thrived in the run game because of his tenacity and natural nose for the football. However, he was a liability in coverage last year, and nothing has changed this year. What has changed is Kaden Elliss.

The veteran linebacker was a standout in his first season with the Falcons but has seemingly regressed in 2024. Getting Andersen back ahead of this pivotal division matchup would be a tremendous boost for a struggling Atlanta defense.
