Less than 24 hours after watching the Padres eliminate the Braves from postseason baseball, Atlanta fans will watch the Falcons take on the Buccaneers in primetime on Thursday Night Football.
It could be a rough stretch for the city, but it’s nothing this group hasn’t dealt with before. The Braves have done nothing but fall short in October since winning it all in 2021, which is starting to look like the exception, not the rule. The Falcons, on the other hand, haven’t even sniffed that level of success.
Since their last playoff appearance, Atlanta’s professional football team has done nothing but hurt fans. So, why are Falcons fans so miserable? Well, our good friend Steven Godfrey did an excellent job articulating exactly why and what’s exactly at stake for the club tonight.

The Falcons haven’t finished with a record above .500 since 2017. In that time, the club has had three head coaches, five starting quarterbacks, zero postseason berths, and one owner inducted into the franchise’s ring of honor.
There hasn’t been much to cheer about. But hey, at least I got to pay $300 to sit in the nosebleeds and watch Arthur Blank honor himself in front of a half-filled stadium on Sunday Night Football against the Chiefs.
That’s just the life of being a Falcons fan, but there’s also a chance that we wake up tomorrow morning on Victory Friday with a commanding lead in the NFC South with the lousy Panthers looming in Week 6.
It’s the type of win that could propel this club to ending its seven-year playoff drought. Of course, there’s a distinct possibility we wake up on Friday hating ourselves and the Falcons, a feeling we know all too well.
