However, there is a gleaming beam of hope shining in the form of Michael Penix Jr., who was nothing short of sensational in his three starts to end the season. The Falcons offense could be among the most explosive in the league next season if Penix continues to progress, but the defense still leaves a lot to be desired, which will surely be a focal point in the upcoming draft.
The worst part about being better but still not being good enough to make the postseason? The Falcons will not have as high of a draft pick. For the first time in four years, Atlanta will be picking outside of the top 10, holding the 15th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft following Sunday’s conclusion to the season.
In all four drafts under current GM Terry Fontenot, the Falcons have selected an offensive player at a different skill position. Most of them have panned out very well, giving the Falcons a lot of hope on that side of the ball for the future. Now, Atlanta’s attention must turn toward the defense. Look for them to allocate most, if not all, of their resources to a defense that was extremely flawed this season and has several key contributors heading towards free agency.
