The Braves added outfielder Jordan Luplow on a Major League Deal yesterday, and although he may not be the sexiest name on the market, he brings a lot to the table. If you recall, the club traded for Sam Hilliard at the beginning of the offseason, and the two players aren’t that dissimilar.
I kind of like the Braves taking a chance on Sam Hilliard. Lots of tools there, and getting out of Coors is always worth the chance. pic.twitter.com/EpYbnVl3me

probably. But so was Justin Turner once upon a time. Max Muncy. So on.

Luplow’s strong arm makes him an asset in the outfield as well:
The Braves love Luplow's defense. His arm strength is in the 96th percentile. His ability to play both corners would allow him to occasionally give Acuña a break in RF. But the plan is for Luplow to come to camp to fight for the LF job with Rosario. Chance the two could platoon.

Jordan Luplow could be a platoon partner for Eddie Rosario vs LHP but doesn’t necessarily have to be. He makes a small enough salary to just be a backup OF (the Heredia role) since there’s a chance Sam Hilliard (out of options) doesn’t even make the squad.

Additionally, Luplow absolutely crushes left-handed pitching to the tune of an .841 OPS for his career:

There is the right handed compliment to Eddie Rosario in left. Luplow has an .842 OPS against left-handed pitching for his career https://t.co/RQ7DP2cb6w

I don’t think Luplow is the future in Atlanta, but at worst, the Braves got a good defender who can give you competitive at-bats against lefties. That’s an improvement at this point.
