The Braves kick off a three-game series with the Mets tonight at Truist Park in a set that will certainly decide the fate of Atlanta’s season and potentially New York’s as well, depending on what happens with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Among all of the storylines, one of the more underrated ones is the Acuña brothers.
Though Ronald has been out of Atlanta’s lineup for virtually the entire season, his little brother, Luisangel, recently made his MLB debut for New York and has experienced a lot of early success thus far.
It’s only been nine games, but Ronald’s little brother owns a 1.228 OPS, thanks to a few home runs. Luisangel was traded to the Mets last year in exchange for Max Scherzer and cash considerations, and he’s already making an impact for the Braves’ rival.
In Atlanta with his older brother, Luisangel is a focal point for the media, and the brothers shared a very cool moment before Tuesday’s Game 1, swapping jerseys with each other.

Mets fans don’t have any love for Ronald, and I’m sure a similar dynamic will come to fruition with Braves Country and Luisangel if he’s as talented as his brother. Though Ronald Acuña won’t be on the field, he’ll surely be in the dugout watching his little brother make his first appearance against his club.
I’m sure Ronald wants his brother to succeed, but there’s no way he wants him to succeed at the cost of his beloved Braves. They are brothers today but opponents tonight.
