Bijan Robinson is going to be a superstar. Very few people would argue that, but the Falcons will only go as far as the rest of their draft picks go. Eventually, second and third-round picks will have to contribute.
Richie Grant, Troy Andersen, and Arnold Ebiketie are second-round picks from prior draft cycles that could break out in 2023. Jalen Mayfield and DeAngelo Malone are third-rounders. The former is on the roster bubble, and the latter is behind several on the depth chart.
Matthew Bergeron, however, has the potential to be an instant impact player. The Falcons traded up in April’s draft to land him in the second round. A tackle at Syracuse is expected to be the long-term answer at left guard for Atlanta.
If Falcons fans are hesitant to put their faith in Bergeron, just know the Cowboys, who have a long track record of finding talent along the offensive line, were weighing taking him in the first round but ended up selecting Mazi Smith instead.
Full deliberation in the Cowboys war room between Bergeron and Mazi. It seems like both were rated 12th and 13th on their board? Also shows the Chiefs offered a 3rd to trade into their spot pic.twitter.com/5qL6XX5j5i

Bergeron was in play for Dallas at the 26th pick, and the Falcons landed him at the 38th pick. It could end up being a steal. Given Atlanta’s track record of trying to turn tackles into guards, i.e., Jalen Mayfield, fans might be a bit skeptical. I believe Bergeron will be different.
