After dropping Game 1 in Philadelphia on Sunday, the 76ers will look to even the series against the Hawks in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals at 7:30 PM ET on TNT on Tuesday, June 8th. Most books have the Sixers as 5 or 5.5 point favorites, but the series odds have begun to shift. Atlanta opened as underdogs at +165 to win this series, while Philly was the favorite at -215. Now, after falling to the Trae Young-led Hawks 128-124 on Sunday, the 76ers are only -118 favorites according to FanDuel and -132 according to Betonline.

The loss came with Joel Embiid playing and De’Andre Hunter out. It was Embiid’s first time playing in six days since suffering a meniscus tear in Game 4 of Philadelphia’s first-round series with the Washington Wizards; Embiid led all scorers with 39 points on 12-for-21 shooting (14-for-15 on free throws) and added nine rebounds, four assists, and three blocks. It still wasn’t enough to beat the well-rounded Hawks.

According to FanDuel, the most likely outcome is still Philly in seven at +300 odds, but the fact that the series odds are all the way down to +100 for the Hawks means oddsmakers are taking notice. The Hawks have a better chance at making it to the Eastern Conference Finals than the Bucks.

The next most likely outcome for the series is Atlanta in six games at +370, followed by Philly in six at +480 odds. My confidence was tested when news broke that Embiid would be playing and Hunter wouldn’t, but Young and the Hawks didn’t waver. The team is beaming with confidence and trust when on the court together, and if the Sixers can’t tie the series heading back to Atlanta, Young might lead the Hawks to the Conference Finals in the first postseason action of his career.
