With the 2020 season coming to an end, it doesn’t take long for the focus to shift to 2021, especially in the gambling world. Just days after the Dodgers finally got over the hump, the odds for who will be next year’s World Series champion have been released, and the Braves are getting some respect after pushing the Dodgers to the brink of elimination in the NLCS. However, according to Sports Betting Dime, there are still four teams with a better chance than them to win the title.
As you would expect, the Dodgers opened up as favorites to repeat at 5/1 odds. The Yankees are a close second at 6/1, with the Padres and White Sox tying for the third-best odds at 11/1. That’s a little questionable if you ask me, but the Padres and White Sox are undoubtedly two of the most hyped-up teams because of their young talent. The Braves come in right behind them at 12/1, which is just in front of the AL champion Rays, who are given 14/1 odds to win it all in 2021.
Other notables are the Cincinnati Reds at 16/1, Houston Astros at 25/1, New York Mets at 25/1, Philadelphia Phillies at 30/1, Washington Nationals at 30/1, and the Miami Marlins at 50/1.
The Braves would probably be a bit higher, but there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding them this offseason. They have key pieces, such as Mark Melancon and Marcell Ozuna, set to hit the open market. Both guys could demand top-dollar in free agency, and the Braves have been hesitant to deal long-term contracts. If Atlanta can bring those guys back and add other pieces while Mike Soroka successfully heals from his Achilles injury, I imagine you’ll see a lot of money come in on the Braves, which will cause those odds to change. But until then, it’s hard to guess just how good this team will be in 2021.
