The long awaited return of Mike Soroka has finally arrived, as David O’Brien of The Athletic reports that the Maple Maddux is set to begin his rehab assignment in High-A Rome this week.

After suffering back-to-back Achilles injuries, Soroka hasn’t pitched in a major-league game since 2022, and despite this encouraging update, I’m not sure that will change this season.
Soroka coming back for the postseason run was always going to be a long shot. The goal was always to get him some work and prepare him for the 2023 campaign. However, I wouldn’t totally rule out a return this season. Soroka is an overachiever, and he has six weeks to stretch himself out before the playoffs. If he looks like he can contribute between now and then, the Braves won’t be afraid to add him to the roster. My expectations are tempered, but when it comes to Soroka, nothing would shock me.
