Trae Young opens up about Dejounte Murray saga with Hawks

NBA: JAN 08 Hawks at Clippers

The Dejounte Murray experiment officially ended earlier this summer when the Hawks traded the All-Star to the Pelicans for a haul of players and picks. The duo of Trae Young and Murray was wonky to begin with, and it never materialized.

The pair of point guards were great separately but failed to build any chemistry on the court together. The box score, advanced metrics, and even the eye test told a story that Murray and Young weren’t a good fit.

The Hawks were a pathetically average team with the duo. On-court disappointment and off-court drama was the story of the Hawks saga with Trae Young and Dejounte Murray, but there’s absolutely no ill-will between the two as Atlanta’s star opened up on Paul George‘s podcast.

The Hawks will now begin a new chapter with Trae Young, Jalen Johnson, Dyson Daniels, Zaccharie Risacher, and others while Dejounte Murray, Zion Williamson, and CJ McCollum will begin a new chapter in New Orleans with the Pelicans.

I don’t think either side wants to see the other fail, but there’s still animosity between Hawks fans and DJM because of his social media rants targeting Atlanta fans. Though Young says there’s nothing behind the curtain, I feel like there are parts of this story that we aren’t hearing.
