After rumors filled social media all morning, it’s official: top Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver AD Mitchell is entering the transfer portal, per Jake Rowe of DawgsHQ.
The rising junior will have three years of eligibility left after joining the Dawgs as a 2021 signee. Mitchell joins Dominick Blaylock, who entered his name in the transfer portal earlier this week.
AD Mitchell will be one of the hottest commodities in the portal this cycle. Despite being injured for much of the 2022 season due to a high ankle sprain suffered at the beginning of the year, the Texas native was instrumental in the Dawgs’ title run, catching critical passes against Ohio State and TCU, notching touchdown catches in every one of the team’s playoff games over the past two seasons.
Mitchell’s motivation to enter the transfer portal isn’t known, but he is originally from Cane Ridge, Texas and has been rumored to want to be closer to his family. It also probably helps that the University of Texas, a potential landing spot, has endless amounts of resources to fund a NIL deal for him.
As for Georgia, the Bulldogs should be able to handle the loss. Kirby Smart landed a pair of wideouts from the transfer portal — Rara Thomas of Mississippi State and Dominic Lovett of Missouri. The Dawgs will also be returning their top two pass catchers from this past season in Brock Bowers and Ladd McConkey.
Nobody should expect that program to crumble from any one transfer, and though AD Mitchell is an ultra-talented pass catcher, Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs are as primed as any team to replace just about any player. Athens is a factory for NFL players.
We wish nothing but the best for AD Mitchell.
