Kirby Smart has one less thing to worry about going into the 2025 football season as Georgia’s top cornerback, Daylen Everette, will be returning for his senior season.Â
Everette, a standout from Norfolk, Virginia, was the cornerstone of Georgia’s secondary throughout the 2024 season. While the Bulldogs faced inconsistencies in their defensive backfield, he was the lone steady presence, anchoring a unit that dealt with injuries and fluctuating performances from younger players.Â
The 6-foot-1, 195-pound corner will be entering his third year as a starter in 2025, providing invaluable experience to a secondary that is expected to undergo significant changes. Everette’s return is particularly critical amidst rumors that fellow returning starter Daniel Harris could be entering the transfer portal. Harris’ potential departure would leave the Bulldogs leaning heavily on second-year players like Ellis Robinson and Domello Jones, who saw limited action in 2024.
Everette stepped up in a big way in the most consequential games for Georgia. He had two takeaways in each of Georgia’s victories over Texas. In the win on the road at Texas early in the 2024 season, he had an interception and a forced fumble. In the SEC Championship game, Everette picked off Quinn Ewers twice.
With this announcement, SEC quarterbacks will be looking in the opposite direction of number 6 in red and black on the gridiron this fall.
