Many Falcons fans know the kind of person Matt Ryan has been his entire career. He’s the gold standard for quarterbacks in this league — leadership, class, compassion, and competitiveness. Ryan drug the Falcons out of the mud when the team drafted him in 2008 after the organization dealt with the Michael Vick fallout.
He’s been a pro’s pro since entering the NFL at 22-years-old, which certainly is atypical for this league. Many young quarterbacks are overwhelmed with just absorbing a playbook, let alone carrying the weight of a team, city, and organization through its most challenging times. Colts fans will quickly realize how lucky they are to have someone like Matt Ryan leading their team.
This story from Robert Mays from Ryan’s rookie season exemplifies the kind of character he approaches everything with:
I also loved this story: During Matt Ryan's first OTAs as a rookie, 12-year-vet Lawyer Milloy told him the locker room was too dead and needed a new speaker sysem.
So Ryan had the equipment staff install one during the break before training camp and picked up the tab. pic.twitter.com/rlnoPJUFj0

My first thought was, “damn, Matt Ryan is such a good guy.” Which was immediately followed by, “damn, billionaire owner Arthur Blank couldn’t put one in?” One thing is certain, the Falcons and their fans are saying goodbye to the greatest player in franchise history, but he may even be better off the field.
