The NFL wants to see Michael Penix Jr. vs. Jayden Daniels in primetime

Michael Penix Falcons

The Devil works hard, but the NFL works harder, and those at the league offices want to see Michael Penix Jr. square off against Jayden Daniels, as they announced the Falcons will take on the Commanders on Sunday, Dec. 17 at 8:20 p.m. in primetime.

The Week 17 game was flexed and could’ve been played on either Saturday or Sunday, and it’ll mark Atlanta’s second SNF contest this year. The first came in Week 3 against the Chiefs, a game in which the Falcons fell 22-17 to Patrick Mahomes and the defending Super Bowl champions.

While I’m semi-joking about a primetime matchup between two rookie quarterbacks, that Week 17 game will surely have playoff implications as both Atlanta and Washington are vying for the final Wild Card spot in the NFC.

It’s very possible that the winner of that contest will punch their ticket to the postseason. The Falcons have the Giants and Panthers in the other two games, while the Commanders will draw the Eagles and Cowboys. If Washington loses to Philadelphia and Atlanta beats New York, the Wild Card spot is up for grabs.

For the first time all season, Raheem Morris didn’t throw his full support behind Kirk Cousins following the win over the Raiders on Monday Night Football. He’s seemingly leaving the door open for a quarterback change, and there might not be a better time to do so than right now.

The Falcons could give Michael Penix Jr. a tune up game this Sunday at home against the lowly Giants, a contest with very little pressure. Then, Penix will get his first big test against Jayden Daniels, Dan Quinn, and the Commanders in primetime the following week.
