The Falcons will begin division play this Sunday at home against the Saints.
Atlanta will be rocking. Mercedes-Benz Stadium will hopefully be a raucous environment for the club’s most hated rivals. New Orleans has one of the best home atmospheres in football, and the Falcons don’t want to have to go into the Superdome needing a win.
It’s important for the Falcons to jump out to an early lead in the NFC South, but there’s even more at stake this weekend. Sunday will mark the 111th game of the Falcons-Saints all-time series, and it’s tied 55-55.
If the good guys lose, it’ll apparently (thanks to Adnan Ikic) be the first time the bad guys have led the series since the very first game in 1967, which the Saints won by a score of 27-24.
If the Falcons lose this weekend, the Saints will take a 56-55 lead in the all time head to head series. This will mark the first time New Orleans has led the series at any point since it was 1-0, back in 1967.

The Falcons have lost 10 of the last 13 matchups, so in addition to the all-time lead, the club would surely like to kick the Raheem Morris era off with a victory, potentially as a sign of things to come.
The Falcons and Saints have one of the few college-like rivalries in the NFL. There will always be history between the Packers-Bears, Steelers-Ravens, 49ers-Cowboys, among others, that the Falcons and Saints won’t ever match; however, Drew Brees and Matt Ryan, the two greatest quarterbacks in their respective franchise’s history, made it mean more than ever.
There’s a lot on the line Sunday.
