Jake already wrote about acquiring Watt, in what would be a trade scenario, but now the Falcons don’t have to give up any assets for the three-time Defensive Player of the Year. Though Terry Fontenot and Arthur Smith will have their work cut out for them convincing Watt to come to Atlanta, it is entirely possible. Watt would immediately enter the facility and change the culture in the building, similar to Tom Brady. He is able to play next to Grady Jarrett and an inside running mate has to be attractive to the former Wisconson Badger. This is from Jake’s piece on Watt:
JJ Watt is JJ Watt. We’re talking about a guy who is an absolute game wrecker, who won defensive player of the year three times. In preparation for Watt, teams have their coaches use tennis rackets to knock down their quarterback’s passes because his wingspan is so freakishly long. In addition to his absurd body and athleticism, Watt is one of the best leaders in the NFL — the guy is the mayor of Houston.
Watt and the Texans mutually agreed to part ways, per a video on his Twitter. He thanked fans and showed exactly why he’s worth every penny he asks for this offseason.

Injuries have prevented Watt from being the 20 sack guy he once was perennially a half a decade ago. However, he was able to play all 16 games last season, proving to be a game-wrecker against both the run and the pass. If he can stay on the field going forward, he remains one of the best defensive players in football and would fill a massive need on Atlanta’s defensive line. If the Falcons are going to spend big on one free-agent this offseason, it needs to be a game-changer like Watt.
