The Falcons had one of their best wins in recent memory today, knocking off the San Francisco 49ers and Kyle Shanahan at home. Now, Atlanta is creeping closer to the postseason:

Falcons are back tied for first in the NFC South and tied for the final Wild Card spot in the NFC (though they currently lose tiebreakers on both).

Additionally, their divisional competition didn’t have a great weekend. Carolina fired Matt Rhule, while Tampa Bay and New Orleans both lost big games to AFC opponents:

There’s a long season ahead, but it’s clear the Falcons were not the abomination that some made them out to be. They’re competitive every week, and if they can string together a few more wins, they’ll not only make the playoffs — but win the NFC South.
