If you’re a Falcons fan, go ahead and google the NFC South standings to start your weekend. Actually, I’ll do it for you.

Yep, that’s right. We are approaching Halloween, and your Atlanta Falcons are alone in first place. If I had told you that two months ago, you might have thrown a drink in my face.
The Falcons have proven to be a feisty bunch all season, and in reality, their record doesn’t do how they’ve played justice. In Week 1, they should have walked away with a victory over the Saints if not for a few self-inflicted wounds. The following week, the Falcons also had a chance to beat the defending Super Bowl champions, but a couple of Marcus Mariota interceptions spelled Atlanta’s doom. And just a few weeks ago, Tom Brady received one of the softest roughing the passer calls in league history, preventing the Falcons from attempting a go-ahead drive.
Saying the Falcons should be 6-1 is a little ambitious, but there’s no question they should be at least 4-3 or 5-2. Despite that, they still sit alone atop the NFC South standings with an opportunity to build on their division lead this week against the lowly Panthers.
