The Braves have traded Sean Newcomb to the Chicago Cubs in exchange for cash considerations and a member of the 2021 World Series squad — Jesse Chavez.
The #Braves tonight acquired RHP Jesse Chavez and cash considerations from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for LHP Sean Newcomb. Atlanta’s 40-man roster is now full.

I still think Sean Newcomb has some upside; he has plenty of talent, but it was time for both sides to move on. Maybe a change of scenery would help — this is a solid deal for the Cubs. It’s a minimal gamble, but the Braves get a guy they are familiar with. Chavez made a couple of clutch spot starts when the Braves badly needed to stop the bleeding in 2021 and was a key piece to the bullpen in the playoffs. This is a great deal for both sides.
