The Braves cut their spring training roster down to 53

Braves hat

As expected, the Braves have made a few moves and trimmed their roster down to 53 as we move through spring training:

Vines, one of Atlanta’s top prospects, only pitched three innings, but he looked pretty solid. I expect the Braves to give him a look eventually out of the pen or maybe as a starter, depending on how his year begins in Gwinnett. He isn’t ready yet, so this move wasn’t shocking. Seth Elledge is mostly AAA depth, so I’m not too surprised he was moved down after some rocky outings. Muñoz was solid in two appearances, but like Vines, he’s just not ready yet. He could be fairly soon, though.

The Braves actually brought Rangel back after releasing him, and he’ll have a lot of work to do after some shaky spring games. Cal Conley didn’t make much of an impact, but we’ll always remember him getting called out on the new pitch clock in that game against the Red Sox. He’s another younger guy, so there is no cause for concern. Luke Waddell falls into that same boat; he and Conley were in the same draft class.
