Terry Fontenot’s track record with Falcons takes another hit

Much has been made about the Falcons rookie class being the least productive in the NFL. The only member of the 2024 draft class to take a single snap this year is JD Bertrand, who may actually be propelled into a bigger role this Thursday if Troy Andersen is unable to go.

A fifth-round pick is the only one even stepping on the field for the Falcons. Michael Penix Jr. isn’t going to see any playing time unless Kirk Cousins goes down with an injury.

The club’s second-round pick, who they traded up for, has been a healthy scratch for all four games, even though Ruke Orhorhoro plays at a position of weakness. The same goes for fourth-round pick Brandon Dorlus.

Bralen Trice was primed to assume a role but was lost to injury before the season even began. The other three draft picks haven’t even sniffed the active roster on game day, with the sixth-rounder out of Georgia, Zion Logue, never making it off the practice squad.

Logue may end up actually getting some snaps now, but not for the Falcons. The Bills have signed him off Atlanta’s practice squad, according to Tom Pelissero.

Terry Fontenot has done a lot of great things. The free agent signings of Jessie Bates, Justin Simmons, Darnell Mooney, Kaden Elliss, and David Onyemata have worked out splendidly, but his track record drafting is as bad as any GM in football.

The Falcons have to start taking a look in the mirror during April’s draft. Fontenot is a pro personnel savant, but he’s a net negative in the draft room.
