Stephen A. Smith royally screws up top 5 Atlanta athletes list

NBA: MAR 05 Warriors at Lakers

The First Take crew did the show on Friday in Atlanta on their HBCU tour, and Stephen A. Smith gave his top 5 Atlanta athletes of all time, royally screwing it up.

  1. Deion Sanders
  2. Hank Aaron
  3. Dominique Wilkins
  4. Chipper Jones
  5. Michael Vick

Where’s Matt Ryan?

Despite Matt Ryan leading the franchise to success for more than a decade, including a magical Super Bowl run, there’s still a a lot of fans who believe Michael Vick is still the greatest quarterback in the team’s history.

Matt Ryan is objectively the better signal caller, but you could never convince some Falcons fans, and clearly others, that Mike Vick isn’t the GOAT. Hell, he was my favorite player as a kid and was the reason I became a Falcons fan in the first place. The Michael Vick Experience is still one of the most exciting things this league has seen.

Stephen A. Smith isn’t the only one who considers Mike Vick in this high of regard, but that wasn’t his biggest mistake. Any respectable Atlanta sports fan considers Henry Aaron the greatest athlete the city has ever had the honor of cheering on.

Let’s just consider what he did on the field first. He’s arguably the greatest baseball player ever. While the others are Hall of Famers, none are in the conversation for the best player of their respective sport.

However, what he did off the field is even more important. He was a Hall of Fame ball player and a world class human being that did more for humanity than everyone else on the list combined. Stephen A. Smith didn’t get this one right.
