Jake Gordon’s Locks
After an excellent 2-1 start, I’ve once again learned that I should never bet on Notre Dame. Luckily, I hammered almost every Clemson first half-line available, so I made a nice little chunk of change. I don’t love the board this week, so this will be a little tougher to squeeze three picks out of. Mine aren’t as “locky” as usual, and I’ll probably avoid the board this week.
Louisville (-2 First Half) v Miami
I’m riding Louisville here again. They let Western Kentucky mount a bit of a comeback, but they swarmed them in the first half. Micale Cunningham should have some success early, just enough to cash in the first half. In a week like this, I’m going with precedent and my gut.
App State (-4.5) v Marshall
The irony here: two of my worst beats from last season meet in Week 2. App State didn’t look fantastic against Charlotte, and Marshall dominated Eastern Kentucky 59-0. Regardless, pickings are slim here. App State plays up against quality opponents, I’ll trust them to lay the points here.
Tulane (-7) v Navy
As a Georgia Southern alum, I know all about Willie Fritz. He just received a fat contract extension after the Green Wave got a week 1 victory over South Alabama. Navy was absolutely embarrassed by BYU, but I like Tulane here, given Fritz’s experience with the triple option. Tulane will be ready, and I think they get a statement win.
2020 Record: (2-1)
Chase Irle’s Locks
There’s really nothing I have to say after losing all three of my picks last week except it’s time to bounce back. I’ll blame it on COVID.
Duke (-6) vs. Boston College
This could be a let-down game for the Blue Devils after hanging tight with the Irish for four quarters last week. However, I like the team with more talent that has a game under their belt over Boston College, who is appearing for the first time this season.
Citadel (+45) at Clemson
I love Clemson, and if they wanted to, they could beat the Citadel by 60+. However, they let off the gas in the second half against Wake Forest, and I imagine they will do the same against the Citadel. The Citadel also can burn the clock with their triple-option offense. Clemson hasn’t covered in their last three opportunities against FCS opponents, and I’m predicting they fail to do so again on Saturday.
Louisville (-2.5) vs. Miami
Miami looked pretty good in their opener against UAB, but I still think they are overhyped and overvalued. Micale Cunningham leads the Cardinals to a crucial win in their ACC opener.
2020 Record: (0-3)
