The Falcons were among the most active teams over the first 24 hours of NFL free agency, signing multiple marquee names as well as depth pieces. However, the job is far from finished. It’s difficult to calculate just how much money the Falcons have left to spend because most of the details of these contracts have yet to be released, but Terry Fontenot came into the offseason with the second-most cap space of any team.
As a rough estimate, they should have north of $20 million to spend. A chunk of that will have to be put in the reserve for their rookie class and mid-season acquisitions, but that still leaves quite a bit of cash remaining for the Falcons to keep adding to this roster through free agency. There may not be any more big splashes, but there are plenty of guys that won’t cost a pretty penny that can significantly improve Atlanta’s roster left on the market.
On the latest episode of SportsTalkATL, Chase Irle, Alex Lord, and Jake Gordon discuss some of those candidates that could move the needle, which includes several of the Falcons own free agents.
