Most of the narratives going around the NFL world on this victory Tuesday aren’t about how the Falcons took the game from the Eagles last night, but rather that Philly gave it away to Atlanta.
And to a certain extent, they’re right. The Eagles had a third and three with less than two minutes. All they had to do was run the ball, and the Falcons would’ve only had around a minute for their final drive, but they got greedy.
Instead of running the football, which they’d done at will last night, the Eagles threw the ball. The play design was perfect, but Saquon Barkley dropped the would-be first down, stopping the clock.
The Eagles would kick the field goal to go up by six points, leaving the Falcons in need of a touchdown with 1:39 and no timeouts. That’s where the national media got it wrong. That’s when the Falcons took it.
Kirk Cousins drove down the field in a near-perfect drive, going 5 of 6 for 70 yards, including the go-ahead touchdown to Drake London. At least one national pundit is giving credit where it’s due.

See, it takes two to tango. The Eagles did leave the door open for the Falcons, but Atlanta also took advantage. It happens all of the time when one team gives another an opportunity and the other doesn’t capitalize. That didn’t happen on Monday Night Football.
The Falcons took it. They took advantage. They capitalized on the Eagles’ lapses. Even if it was improbable, it doesn’t change that Raheem Morris’ team took it from their opponents.
