The Falcons aren’t having the season that fans, players, coaches, or even the owner expected.
The product hasn’t been up to par after Arthur Blank’s investment in the roster this offseason. Terry Fontenot and the front office spent much of their cap space on the defensive side of the ball, which has turned into arguably a top 10 unit in football.
However, the quarterback position has continually held the Falcons back. If we look to compartmentalize the season, though, there have been extremely bright moments.
For instance, Jessie Bates III is playing like the best safety in the league. He’s one of two players to be in the top 10 of forced fumbles and interceptions, marking one of the best free-agent signings in franchise history.
Moreover, the Falcons have had other individually bright moments, which Matt Bowen of ESPN highlighted in a piece. A couple of players were recognized as being the best at a specific skill.
Most sudden rusher: Bijan Robinson, Falcons
An all-purpose playmaker, Robinson has the stop/start ability to slice through pursuit angles. He has 24 rushes of 10 or more yards in his rookie season, the fifth-most in the league.
Bijan Robinson’s rookie campaign hasn’t gone as many had hoped, but the suddenness in which he runs is undeniable. His dead leg move is one of the single most effective evasive maneuvers in football. Just ask Darnell Savage.

Bowen went on to give A.J. Terrell the title as the most physical corner in coverage.
Most physical in coverage: A.J. Terrell, Falcons
Terrell is a competitive cover corner who will use his length to physically challenge wide receivers. He has eight pass breakups and 37 tackles.
Atlanta’s heavy press coverage scheme gives Terrell the ability to do what he does best — get in the receiver’s chest. Terrell has blossomed into one of the best corners in football, and Ryan Nielsen’s improved defense has allowed him to be even more aggressive. Last but certainly not least, the best player on the team.
Best third-level range: Jessie Bates III, Falcons
Bates has the post and split-field range to track the deep ball, plus he can drive downhill to take away intermediate concepts. He has grabbed five interceptions this season and returned one for a score.
Jessie Bates III should just be considered the best all around safety. He’s the whole package and will be rewarded with All-Pro honors at the end of the season.
