Several Falcons draft prospects elect to skip NFL Combine

The Falcons have an excellent opportunity to get their hands on draft prospects at this week’s scouting combine. However, there are a few players the Falcons might have interest in that have announced they’ll be skipping the workout for various reasons.

Per Ian Rapoport, LSU cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. won’t participate in the on-field workouts in Indianapolis. He’ll instead wait until LSU’s Pro Day on April 6 after suffering a Lisfranc injury to his foot, which required surgery. Rapoport’s report suggests Stingley is close to 100%, but he isn’t quite there.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Ole Miss star Matt Corral won’t throw this week at the scouting combine. Corral continues to work his way back from an ankle injury he suffered more than eight weeks ago in the Sugar Bowl. Pelissero reported Corral resumed moderate throwing a couple of weeks ago and plans to be a full participant in the Rebels’ Pro Day on March 23.

Evan Neal also won’t be doing any on-field drills, according to Ian Rapoport. Alabama’s Pro Day is set to take place on March 30, so scouts will have to wait until then to see the potential No. 1 pick. The Falcons would have to get lucky for Neal to slide down draft boards to them at No. 8, but it’s certainly a possibility.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported George Karlaftis working out at the combine is also up in the air, but he did confirm that Hassan Haskins will only bench as he recovers from a lower leg injury. Justyn Ross will also join the list of Falcons’ mid-round targets that won’t work out this week.
