In one of the most shocking developments of the college football offseason, Georgia quarterback Carson Beck has decided to forgo the NFL Draft and enter the transfer portal, with three schools immediately emerging as landing spots.
According to Pete Thamel, the Miami Hurricanes should be considered the favorites to land Beck, with the Ohio State Buckeyes and Texas Tech Red Raiders also considered landing spots.
Although it seems trivial to a certain generation of college football fans, the fact that Beck’s girlfriend attends Miami could impact his decision. It should also help that the Hurricanes have a healthy NIL budget and just showed the world what a transfer quarterback can do there.
Cam Ward transferred to Miami after two impressive seasons at Washington State. In his lone season in South Beach, he won the Davey O’Brien Award and finished fourth in Heisman Trophy voting after breaking multiple single-season records for the Hurricanes.
The ACC also has to be extremely attractive for Beck, along with the prospect of entering his name back into the conversation for the No. 1 overall pick. He came into the year with Heisman and top draft pick expectations, but he finished it with a torn UCL and watched another signal caller lead his football team.
Though he isn’t expected back for spring ball, he should be back during summer workouts, so interested schools shouldn’t be worried about Beck getting acclimated to a new environment.
Despite having a down year by his standards, Carson Beck did a lot with a terrible offensive line and even worse skill position players. In the right system, he can be a successful quarterback. It seems he’ll get the chance in 2025.
