If the Braves can’t bring back Marcell Ozuna, they have to find a backup plan. Unfortunately, there aren’t many inspiring options in free agency, which may force Alex Anthopoulos to turn to the trade market. He could target an outfielder to take Ozuna’s spot or even explore third-base, which features several stars that could potentially be on the move. Right now, it appears they are at least testing the waters on some outfielders out there, as Jon Heyman said on his podcast that the Braves have “kicked the tires” on Orioles outfielder Trey Mancini.

Now, before I get your hopes up; Heyman also said the deal is unlikely, given how much the Orioles value Mancini’s production and leadership in the clubhouse. The 28-year-old has the ability to play in the outfield or first base and smacked 35 homers to go along with 38 doubles and a .291 average in 2019.
Unfortunately, Mancini missed the entire 2020 season after a tumor was found and removed in his colon. Following the season, thankfully, it was revealed that the surgery was a success, which has allowed him to resume baseball activities. Still, that missed time may effect his trade value.
Mancini has one more arbitration year left on his contract after agreeing to a $4.75 million figure for 2020, and by the time he’s a free agent, perhaps the Orioles might want to consider re-signing. Although spending money has never been Baltimore’s calling card.
We’ll keep you posted with more updates if things develop any further.Â
