In the dead of night, the Suns swung one of the biggest deals in recent memory, landing Kevin Durant in exchange for four first-round picks and three players. However, before that trade came to fruition, Pheonix was reportedly pivoting toward a deal with Atlanta for Hawks’ forward John Collins.

The NBA trade deadline is regularly one of the most exciting times in sports. The regular season in the Association has lost a ton of its shine in the last decade, but there’s never been more player movement than right now.
Unfortunately, it seems the Hawks will more than likely stand pat this trade deadline. Atlanta is talented, yet has obvious issues that need addressing. Those solutions won’t be available at the deadline. Sure, there are plenty of small moves that can be made.
If Landry Fields can find suitors for expiring contracts, he should pursue those. Overall, he should reassess the entire big picture in the offseason, which includes keeping John Collins. The Hawks are far too talented to blow the whole thing up, but underlying problems must be worked out.
