Our own Jake Gordon just finished a short article on Jeter Downs, a shortstop prospect that was recently released by the Red Sox. Jake believes Downs could be a good addition to the Braves as organizational depth, given how weak Atlanta’s farm system is currently. Downs had a tough 2022, but he’s a toolsy shortstop with some upside. I like the idea, but this article is about Dansby Swanson, who could end up being the long-term shortstop in Boston following the exit of Xander Bogaerts.
According to Jon Heyman, the Red Sox are “seriously considering” Swanson to fill the void.
Red Sox appear to be seriously considering star free agent Dansby Swanson now. Would allow them to keep Story at 2B. Swanson’s in very good shape: Cubs, Dodgers, Braves among others interested.

As Heyman notes, there are plenty of teams hoping to land Dansby Swanson, and at the moment, it feels like the Braves are on the outside looking in.
If I had it my way, I would never see Swanson in another jersey other than the Braves for the remainder of his career. But if he has to leave, Boston is where I hope he lands. The Red Sox are a historic franchise in the American League. I could still cheer him on from the outside. That’s much better than him sticking around the National League, and if he lands with the Dodgers like his buddy Freddie Freeman, he’s dead to me.
